How to Sew Summer Dress with Sleeves using Our Free Pattern PDF

How to sew easy summer dress with sleeves using our free summer dress sewing patter pdf. This is beginner’s guide on sewing a summer dress. Follow these simple steps, and you can wear a summer dress made by you in this summer. Below are the materials you need and an overview of what we’ll be doing.

Materials You will Need:

Before You Start

Make sure your fabric is cut according to the pattern provided and that you’ve serged or overcast all edges. This helps prevent fraying. You can print your pattern using Adobe Reader.

Step 1: Preparing the Front Pieces

First, close the darts in both front pieces. Then, make a tubular hem to the neckline and armholes. If you’ve serged the pieces, a simple hem will do.

How to Make a Tubular Hem:

  1. Fold the edge of the fabric by about 1/4 of the seam allowance. Press firmly with an iron.
  2. Fold again along the seam allowance line and press.
  3. Stitch along the inner fold with a sewing machine or invisible stitch by hand.

Step 2: Preparing the Back Pieces and Building the Top

Make a tubular hem to the neckline and armholes of the back pieces. After that, stitch the sides of the back pieces to the sides of the front pieces.

Step 3: Attaching the Top and Bottom Pieces Together

Measure the waistline of the combined front and back pieces, then gather the bottom piece until it matches that length plus 1 inch. Stitch the bottom piece to the waistline, leaving 1/2 inch on each end.

Step 4: Preparing the Back Straps and Adding Ruffles

Back Straps:

  1. Fold the strap piece in half and stitch along the edges, 1/4 inch from the edge.
  2. Turn it right side out and stitch the straps to the back pieces.

Sleeve Ruffles:

Hem the ruffles along the curved side and add a basting stitch along the straight side. Gather the ruffle to the desired length (9.5 inches for Small, 10 inches for Medium, 10.5 inches for Large) and stitch it to the armholes.

Congratulations

Your summer dress is ready! You can wear it with pride knowing that you made it yourself. Practice makes perfect, so keep sewing and experimenting with different fabrics and styles.
